I'm not invested in the rivalry, but if I had to pick one Star Trek would be my pick, too. :)

I'm lucky I love both, I guess.

I've always liked both but recently I've really fallen in love with Star Wars. They're so different; I don't see a need for a rivalry.

why keep this a secret?

I've always enjoyed both and don't really get the rivalry. Other than taking place in space, they are wildly different things.

Star Trek is my first love, but pop culture wise I think Star Wars is far more interesting. I'm more invested in the canon of Star Trek, but the fandom surrounding Star Wars.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I grew up with both & love them both pretty equally. There are ups & downs with both franchises. There's not much common ground between the two (besides SPACE), so I never really understood why you're expected to choose one to love & one to hate.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The only SW movie I care for is Rogue One, maybe cos it's unlike the rest of the bunch. Otherwise, ST is far better. But I don't get the rivalry between the two - they are completely unlike apart from the 'set in space' premise, but then, a lot of other stuff is set in space too. *shrug*

A few months ago I'd have picked Trek unhesitatingly, but the hater-fans of Trek have kinda soured me on it. The axanar nerds, the STD stuff, the zOMG TNG EVUL COMMIES !!!1eleven!, MOAR GUNz! All that stuff from the fanbase, plus the always present libertarian loudmouths have all kinda made being in fandom unpleasant and it has got to the point when I rewatch an episode all I can see is all the hater arguments obscuring the show. I need to Star Wars out for a while to forget about the grimdark lovers and power-haters in the current Trek fandom. Star Wars is bringing the slice of camp adventure I used to get in Trek, right now anyway. I'm sure the haters will start colonizing it soon enough.

I've never been into Star Wars at all, but Rogue One has so many actors I like that I want to watch it even while not caring about the universe. Is that bad?

I love both, but if I had to give one up it would be a teary goodbye to Star Wars.

I don't care about the rivalry thing but I prefer Trek out of the two, Star Wars is still fun but I don't love it the way I love Star Trek.

I love both, but in different ways. Trek is the fictional universe I'd most want to live in. And I think it has the best messages (for the most part). But given that while I love both fantasy and scifi, fantasy edges scifi out a bit for me, Star Wars, with its touches of fantasy, is my escapist fandom (well, one of them). I'd say it maybe edges out Trek a bit. I tend to fantasize about it more in my daydream stories. I think I'd say it is my second favorite fandom after Tolkien. I'm much more active in the Star Wars fandom than I am in the Trek fandom.

I don't care for either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*insert Meryl Streep yelling meme* THE RIVALRY WAS NEVER A REAL RIVALRYYYY

seriously, one is a fantasy adventure series, the other is oldschool philosophy-based sci-fi. Lots of people can dig both, and I'm just one of em

(Anonymous) 2017-04-18 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
For the life of me, I do not understand this rivalry. I grew up around it (albeit in a family that loved both), but I still don't understand it. They have almost nothing in common except the names.

I like Star Trek, and I love Star Wars. But my answer to "Star Trek or Star Wars?" is always going to be Stargate.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-18 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
You have good taste OP! Star Trek>>>>>>>Star Wars

But, most importantly, what is your opinion on Battlestar Galactica (1978)?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-18 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
But seriously, I like parts of both franchises and dislike parts of both franchises. I think the rivalry can be fun, as long it's approached in a lighthearted manner. Though if I had to absolutely choose a franchise with aliens and spaceships and Star in the title, it would probably be Stargate.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-18 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
SW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ST

Yes, some of SW is rubbish, however, ST is the most inane, illogical, infuriating American colonist final frontier bullshit translated into outer space. It makes me rage.

No love whatsoever.

Tbh I haven't liked any Star Wars movie I've seen including the reboot. I have not seen the most recent movie though.

Love Star Trek, but I hate the new movies too. I really don't understand why they're so popular since they're just like every other dull space action movie to me.

Star Wars, always, despite having been raised on TNG.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-18 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
conversely I tried the new Star Trek movies and apparently don't care about that universe whatsoever
