Personally, I despise Mary Sue fic and reader insert fic intensely. But-

1. There is nothing objectively wrong with such fics.
2. Deny it all you want, but the last three comments sound like they were all written by the same person troll.

They are inherently embarrassing though. I've got an imagination too, I can get with fantasies, but putting them down in words feels so cringy.

I find them extremely embarrassing and cringy as well, but am not sure what you mean by "inherently" embarrassing. Their ubiquity would suggest that a not-insignificant portion of fandom enjoys reading them and presumably doesn't think they're embarrassing.

Yeah, I find them embarrassing and cringy too. But then the majority of the non-fannish (and male fannish) public seem to think fanfic in general is embarrassing and cringy. Meanwhile I think fanfic is one of the coolest things ever, and feel incredibly lucky that it's out there for me to enjoy.

The moral of the story: "embarrassing" and "cringy" are extremely subjective ways of perceiving something. There's nothing "inherent" about either.
