I understand where you are coming from with this but a lot of people tend to ship in fandom based on character dynamics or "pair the spares", I've noticed, and not age. People know they're not real so they don't care or see it as terrible or a dramatic reflection on their personality. Although the people that take it too seriously and start demanding people dont ship this and dont ship that, and get all defensive about shipping are the people you need to stay away from.
