I talked to my mom, who's a tax preparer, and she said there's a place on the IRS website that's dedicated to identity fraud and lets you bypass being on the phone. She also said if you were just waiting for a refund, then you don't have to file an extension.

I usually owe state taxes but not federal, so I probably do owe some money, but last year it was around $120 even with late payment interest. I started filling out the ID theft forms on the IRS website, but I'm gonna have to get a copy of my last year's return from the tax prep guy-last year was the first time I paid a professional and I lost the electronic copy of my return they sent. Argh.
