I've seen fics where Sylar, Mo, and Molly are the happiest family ever and bake cookies together all the time.

I'd accept that if it came with a neato backstory of how Sylar was brainwashed or was being manipulated like a meat puppet. But then I'd rather read the story of how they brainwashed him than read about him baking cookies. Unless the cookies were full of horror and irony.

Besides, a great writer can usually convey to us which character is which in a fic without saying things like "the geneticist" every other line.

Yeah, when you start having to label his profession, then maybe you just aren't paragraphing very well. Or possibly you are bouncing your POV around too fast. If it's two people in the room, a reader can usually keep them sorted pretty easily by the action and the dialogue, with minimal reminders.

I'm a Sy/Mo writer (praying this secret does not refer to me, but I'm pretty sure... ^_~), definitely not a fluff and cookies writer, but anyway...
