When you say that talking about your headcanon would lead to wank, do you mean something like, the most popular fanon is that a character is gay, but you headcanon them as straight?

What's your interpretation? What fandom? What's the point of posting to a secret community if you're not going to actually post the secret?

Sometimes confession is its own reward.

"I have a secret that would cause great wank if it were known" is not a confession. That's just bragging.

Because sometimes you just want to get it off your chest without the attached wank. Because sometimes the fandom is small enough that OP doesn't want to risk being outed. Either way, OP didn't do it to spite you, so try not to take it personally.

"Large, vibrant and supportive" doesn't fit your criteria though.

I'll never understand why some people feel so intimdated by popular headcanons. Just do your thing anyway. In my current fandom 90% of my headcanons go against the popular mould and I keep writing my fic anyway. It's also a rather smallish fandom so my fics tend to stand out like sore thumbs compared to what else gets posted. So what? I have fun writing them anyway and there are some people who like to read them.

And if your fear is that your fandom friends are going to turn against you once you'll voice your opinion it might be worth considering if they deserve to be called your friends anyway.

This. But then again, my main fandom has a lot of different headcanons. And for my OTP, there is a pretty even divide over the two main different ways to ship them.

This. Write for yourself and hopefully someone else will like it.

Eeh, I kind of know the feeling. I did a few metas in my fandom and more popular blogs picked them up and absolutely wall of texted why I was WRONG because it contradicted their headcanon. And they had tons of followers liking and reblogging their 'correction' and praising them for showing me up so hard and how awesome it was.

And I'm a wimp. I just stopped posting. It wasn't even anything really serious it was something like "I think character X is better with long range weapons than with short range because he tends to go for them first in tough situations." But oh holy balls you guys, you'd think I'd suggested that the character was only sexually aroused by underage flatworms.

I hear you, OP, and yes, that can feel so lonely.

Popular theories in fandom does not mean they are right, in fact often the majority of fandom is very very wrong.

And chances are there may be some people that agree with you but they are afraid to speak up themselves.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST SAY THE FANDOM.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-21 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, please.

And if you can ignore the thought police in your fandom, that probably would be helpful. No need to be neurotic about these things, right?
