Honestly twitter during the day because I can quickly look at it while at work.

Reddit /r/news and /r/politics.

Sort of online, but I also listen to a couple of political/news podcasts.

Oh, I forgot about /r/worldnews. I check that at least once a day as well.

NPR, mostly.

Mostly BBC, but occasionally CNN. It's remarkable how much more actual news is on CNN.com than on the TV channel.

One thing that bugs me about most internet news sources, though, is that if something big happens and you don't get to the internet right away, all you get by the time you do get online are LATEST UPDATES! but no easy-to-find run-down of what actually happened. I might hear something on the radio in the car while I'm going into work, but I may not get a chance to check the news until hours later (or the next day, if I forget) and by then everything is, like "More details on suspect released!" and I can't find anything about what the suspect is suspected of actually having *done.*

In my experience, newspaper websites > TV websites > actual TV news. Actual TV news is probably on balance harmful to understanding what is going on unless something is actively happening live.

For a round-up in situations where I'm coming into a story late, I feel like the Guardian is usually pretty good about providing information and context.

Honestly? Jezebel. Explains a lot, doesn't it?

Hot take: Jezebel and the ex-Gawker franchises in general are quite good as far as online news sources go. They definitely have their flaws (addicted to being contrarian, committed to moral stands to a point where they are obviously inconsistent and hypocritical) but they're also mostly smart and on top of shit and publish good writing. Like, in particular, Deadspin might just be the actual best sports news site on the Internet at this point, although I don't know how many people here care about sports news sites.

They cop way more shit than they deserve (admittedly, in part because they used to be way more shitty than they are now)

I follow the twitters of journalists and news outlets, like NBC and CNN or WaPo authors, etc.

Google News and then I tend to skim over all the headlines to get the gist before clicking on a few to get more details.
