What is everyone up to this weekend?

It is cold and raining here (weather went from 80 to mid-50s in one day) and will continue to be that way all weekend. So I'll be staying inside and trying to get as many loot boxes as I can on Overwatch. Other than that, I might watch a terrible movie or two.

My goal is to read and clean my house and not leave the house.

I went out every night this week and was away last weekend and am just looking forward to relaxing and catching up because I have plans a bunch after work again next week.

That is a good goal. Especially the not leaving the house part. What are you going to be reading?

Night Watch by Terry Pratchett for the book club, rereading American Gods by Neil Gaiman before the TV show comes out (one of the things I did this week was to go to a cast and producer panel in the city and I'm super excited for the show to premiere)

Then Jonestown by Jim Gunn about Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. I'm fascinated by the whole story so it'll be interesting to read this book's take on it.

Then "How to Survive a Plague" by David France about AIDs.

Plus some random YA books around the house. I need to catch up on books, obviously.

I'm hoping to write something for the new Thrawn novel. There was a very shippy pair in the book.

I haven't read the book yet, but how was it? Have you read the old EU as a comparison?

I liked it. I've only read Heir to the Empire of the old EU, but Thrawn was very Thrawn. There are a few tiny twists that are different from the original Thrawn's backstory but nothing hugely noticeable (huge implications IMO though). There are a couple things that didn't work for me with Zahn's writing style but it's mostly nitpicky stuff. I really liked the new characters. I also thought the plot with Pryce ended up being jaw-dropping, although it didn't hold my interest at all times. The 'bad guy' was a little underwhelming too. I would definitely recommend the book though.

I hope you get a lot of inspiration to write then. I am sure if you found a pairing you liked a lot of other people like it as well.

I want to read this so bad. It is sitting in my Amazon box, just waiting until I have some money.

IMO, whenever you do get it, it'll be worth the wait. ;)

Put together a fire pit, plant flowers, and finish Nier Automata. ...and then get back to REG studying for my CPA, which has taken a brief backseat during the March/April Video Game Release Armageddon that has demolished all my time.

Fun! What kind of fire pit? What other games have taken over your life?

It's just a itty bitty shitty $90 Hampton Bay wood-burning one from Home Depot. It came with a cooking grate, and I can lift it. The last is important, since I'm not gonna get any help moving the thing to the back yard.

Breath of the Wild and Persona 5. I finally got "done enough" with Breath of the Wild, but I've barely scratched the surface of P5. I've set it off to the side as a colorful pick-me-up after Nier's done chewing up my heart.

I'm doing sweet eff all so I too shall be mostly grinding out shit I need on WoW, or leveling an alt. Anything that takes my fancy really.

Doing nothing IS THE BEST! Enjoy playing WoW!

Lord of the Rings marathon. Watching Fellowship tonight, Two Towers tomorrow, and ROTK on Sunday. Probably some Doctor Who and Class as well. I'm finally feeling mostly better, and I'm planning on having a fun, relaxing weekend. I watched Event Horizon earlier today (totally underrated horror movie).

Extended editions or regular? Event Horizon is pretty good! I saw it quite a while ago.

I want to get my garden set up. This is what I'm doing this year: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CS8R11S I need to get some more soil, mix it all up, then put in some seeds. It's getting late, I hope I can get at least something started.
Next year I'm hoping to manage a bit more of a real garden + some landscape stuff, but the house is new, there's other stuff on the plate, and I'll need someone to till for me to do that.

I have something like that! It's not much bigger, and divided into quarters. ...only I made the mistake of starting a strawberry patch, and now the whole thing and a part of the yard is strawberries. Which, YAY STRAWBERRIES, but I had to buy another bed to have things that weren't strawberries!

I'll be working on saturday and on sunday I'm off to the christening of the daughter of a friend.

I also expect to be updated on the situation of my grandmother at the hospital. Mom's been staying with her during the night. Granny has been screened and treated for epilepsy, screened for stroke and she was pretty much unresponsive when I visited.

I wish you luck with the gaming.
