I don't think it's entirely true that 4chan is different. To the extent that it is true, it's not really a defense or a mitigation. It does not, in fact, make the things they do less harmful. It's an absurd proposition to suggest that they do. I hope this helps.

4chan is anonymous. There is no way they can gang up on someone or create call out posts to shame someone. You can say whatever the fuck you want and people can only respond to your words rather than find some way to attack YOU.

People have this huge misconception that 4chan is this hivemind that thinks and behaves the same way when they are far less organized and have much higher tolerance for everything than the shit I've seen on tumblr.
