Both of the actors who played Anakin.

I still feel bad for the child Anakin actor.

That was not good what they did to him. I mean, look at the abuse Wil Wheaton got on Star Trek for Wesley and that was magnitudes less than what they heaped on a little kid. Okay, the pod racing was dumb and the whole pod race segment dragged down the movie with time that could have been better spent on literally anything else, but there was no need to go to the extremes the "fans" did.

Right. Jake Lloyd didn't WRITE the movie.

Maybe it would have been better if they'd shoved Warwick Davies in a mo-cap suit and CGI'd Anakin into the picture then had a VA do the work. Lets face it, you are pretty much never going to get a finely tuned performance out of a five year old. It is the one place where Lucas could have used his fondness for gratuitous CGI as an asset not a detriment.

He wasn't 5 I think he was 9? Maybe 10. But still a little kid and iirc it was his first real acting job. Personally I'm not bothered by his performance because he was so young and I never expect Oscar-worthiness out of anyone under, idk, 16. Although the kid actors in Stranger Things are killing it.

he was only in that movie because he was George Lucas' kid's friend.

Hayden tried his best, sure, and the dialogue was terrible. But the recent resurgence of people who've flipped in recent times with "it's good, really!!", come on. If you want to kill your guilt over how hard you complained in 2002, enjoy the fact that he gave us the greatest Prequel meme ever.

I do think he's better in Sith than Clones, everyone was terrible in Clones.

I feel more sympathetic to him now we know that most of the dialogue and the stilted delivery was actually a conscious choice that Lucas made and pretty much forced him to deliver.

He did try to get Lucas to change things but he was just so...stubborn.

He's definitely better in Sith but Sith is a better movie. (Also the novelization of Revenge of the Sith is infinitely better than the movie)

I feel bad for him for the awful dialogue and he did a few minor movies after but gave up acting for a while after.

I genuinely liked him as Anakin because the awkward was funny to me especially since it came off as him trying to be cool and failing nerdily. And he really sold the Uber Angsty Drama Queen stuff in RotS. Then again I was 15 when AotC came out, so it's not like I was some kind of movie connoisseur. But I still have a soft spot for the prequels including Anakin tbh. They were the childhood/teenagerhood SW movies of my generation.

I unapologetically like Kid!Anakin. he was adorable and frankly acted the part as well as I'd expect a child actor to.

Agreed. But I also love the Prequels.

I'm not really a Star Wars *fan* but to me casting was one of the lesser problems with those movies. The dialogue, editing and cg all hurt the actors enormously. Only the top notch performers did well in those films, everyone else was cringeworthy as hell.

I mean I do think maybe the older of the two could have been casted better, but those movies would still not be good if he had been.

Yeah, agreed. Many of the actors may not have been all that strong, but you cannot blame an actor for clunky dialogue and awkward pacing. It's the writers' job to make a good script that feels natural, and it's the director's job to make the actors not look like idiots while performing.

I liked ROTJ Anakin, but Haden was....poorly chosen.
