I think there's been a lot of this in comic movies. Michael Keaton as Batman. Heath Ledger as Joker. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. etc. All the ones that fans were up-in-arms about before they saw the movies.

I love looking at the difference in comments about Heath Ledger's Joker from right after he was cast and then after the movie came out.

da

Wow was there much uproar about it? I wasn't really fannish back then, so I missed it. Although thinking about it now, especially considering Heath's previous movies, I can see why some people would've not liked the idea!

Yeah, the Heath Ledger love is cooling off now though. Partly because of all the copycat villains (every movie villain these days is Ledger's Joker, just wanting to burn the world means the script writer doesn't have to worry about real motivations) and partly because it isn't really that great. There was a lot of love from Frank Miller fanboys and everyone else kinda went along because you don't speak ill of the dead and you don't not praise someone's final role, but now a few years have passed it is being looked at with fresh eyes and it ain't that great.

Nah, it's actually that great.

Nah, mate. One note all the way through.

With Michael Keaton, I just love that in the '80s alone he played Batman, Beetlejuice, and the dad in Mr. Mom. That's quite a varied list of roles there :D.

I was going to say Michael Keaton as Batman. That seemed like a really big uproar.

Michael Keaton was very good as Batman!
