I don't know if it was considered risky, but I really like Robin William's in his serious, dramatic, and villainous roles. Like One Hour Photo. He's creepy as fuck. Some of the creepiness might even come from the fact that you expect him to be his goofy usual stage self and he's not.

That same effect made Elijah Wood terribly creepy in Sin City. Imagine having watched LOTR and then go to see this one.

His episode of SVU was fucking sad and chilling, all at the same time. He was fucking fantastic.
