The outfits in Memoirs of a Geisha are amazing.

Yeah, the outfits were one of the only good things about that movie. I remember the rest being underwhelming... but damn those kimono. Especially since the characters treat the kimono with such reverence, so you really know how precious they are.

I love the costumes from the Chinese period drama The Empress of China about Wu Zetian, everything in that is so gorgeous and I think partly pulled from history? Idk 100% about that but I don't care, it looks good.

The costumes in the movie Belle are also fantasic.

And the Jane Austen BBC movie 'Emma', loved the outfits in that too.

I stopped after maybe episode 20 with Empress of China because I flat out got too confused but man the entire production value was off the charts for that show.

Oh yeah I don't always understand what's going on but my god it is so pretty I kind of don't care, but I'm also always several episodes behind because I forget when it comes out.

I really loved 1998's Our Mutual Friend. It has an amazing cast. And Bleak House is excellent too.

Did you read the books before watching Our Mutual Friend and Bleak House? If yes, would you say they are good adaptations as well as good TV?

Bleak House is an excellent adaptation.

Our Mutual Friend was better than the book, I thought. Watchable, where the book was a bit of a slog.

I came to say Granada Holmes. I forget I'm watching actors play fictional characters.

There was a Russian series called Grafinya de Monsoro, based on Alexandre Dumas' Dame de Monsoreau, that I remember really, really fondly. Partly for being a really close adaptation of the book, partly of the costumes, and partly because several of the actors (particularly Chicot and Bussy) were amazing.

Amor Real, a Mexican soap opera by Univison
ZORRO: La Rosa y la Espada, a soap opera by TELEmundo (idk if it's mexican, Venezuelan, or a mix)

Mostly Hispanic soap operas. They do 1700s--1800s so well. And a Spanish series called La Aguila Roja. Shout out to Xica, a Brazilian soap opera with one of the first black female leads (In Latin American television). These two novelas are also period pieces. I love all this!

Also, I heard Wolf Hall was great, though ive5ywt to check it out. Leaky Blinders is amazing as well (post ww1 Birmingham, England, features some ptsd, gangsters you want to cheer for, Cillian Murphy, and some boss women)

Sa

For Hispanic soap operas, Alborrada I think has better costuming, but I could be wrong. The story didn't keep me.

I always wanted some Malaccan Sultanate period piece, but the only good-ish example that exists out there is Puteri Gunung Ledang, and that came out over 10 years ago.

Besides that, Bajirao Mastani has made me a soft fan of Maratha/old-India period dramas, though I've been a soft fan of Bollywood and Kollywood since childhood. I am so weak for gorgeous costumes and set designs.
