Because the kinks work for some people. I personally wish we could see some parts without other parts. I like the heat part and the d/s aspects, but I could do without the self lubrication and knotting. But clearly it works for a lot of people.

Same-ism, though I like knotting - but the self lubrication makes me actively dislike the sex, and I sort of hate the whole predetermination of it, so I can only just barely stomach it if people try to subvert the tropes.

I just don't like the lack of choices and the "biological imperative" thing. I am all for heats and lubrication nonsense and even knotting, but the whole assigned at birth and can never change and the entire not very subtle gender stuff, that's what annoys me about it.

Gods, yes.

So much this.

I LOVE all the kinky physical stuff - the heats, knotting, lubrication, etc. - but the gender stuff always breaks my heart and turns my stomach unless the author handles it really deftly.

Plus, I really wish there were more Omegaverse fics that toned down the heats a little. I mean, obviously the heats are front and center of the appeal in these fics, but I would like it if instead of going completely mindless and losing all control, it was just a little less intense, so that it still felt like the alpha and the omega had the ability to control themselves if they really, really exerted all their willpower. Like I really hate the idea that Omegas have to lock themselves up and throw away the key or else they'll go out and beg the first Alpha they see to fuck them - even though outside of heat they wouldn't want that. To me that's just really sad and squicky. Same with the way Alphas are often portrayed as completely incapable of controlling themselves around an Omega in heat, completely regardless of the circumstances. Yikes, nope.
