Please no, Yurio is a spoiled brat and I'm tired of his stans making him out to be anything else. He got to fucking win, he doesn't need limelight.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"his stans"

Like, the canon writers, you mean?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Like the people who think the show should be all about him and that Victor and Yuuri are horrible protags who mistreat Yurio and abuse him.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
+1

I even like canon Yurio and I'm looking forward to his development, but his stans are as annoying as his in-universe fans that I'm starting to think that the less Yurio we get, the better.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, the Victuuri stans who hate him because of his stans are worse tho. You'd think they'd try to be more like the characters they stan and take the high road over that petty shit.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt but just butting in to say the whole "those fans suck!" and "well THOSE fans are actually worse!" is so silly and typical fandom, and also non-quantifiable. maybe there are shitty fans everywhere.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure, better than Yurio fans who accuse anyone of pedo for shipping him with anyone, better than the fans who make him into the center of the whole universe who is the only one who matters, better than the fans that headcanon him as a lonely messed-up person who is justified no matter what he does, better than the fans who bash Yuuri for taking the spotlight, better than the fans who dismiss all his flaws and make him into their perfect smol son.

There are some annoying Victuuri shippers who don't like Yurio, but I've yet to see any Yurio fans that aren't awful.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
This post doesn't sound biased at all.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
If you can point me to any decent Yurio fans, please do so. (Specially if they're into Yurio/JJ!)

I like him and what I wanted to enjoy in fandom included him, but every time there's a discussion about him and every time I read a Yurio-centric fic I end just annoyed by how awful his fandom is. The new current of ~victimized Yurio fans who suffer under the evil Vituurin monoshipers~ is not helping either.

This writer does a pretty good Yurio, I thought. Young, fierce, bit of an arse: sympathetic.

Thank you, I'll read it as soon as I can because I really, really want to read some good Yurio fic.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that he's a brat, but I'd still like to know more about his backstory and where his friendship with Otabek will go.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I would... If they'd make him less one-note.

I don't see that happening.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I find Yurio a little annoying, too. He had cute moments, but he's such.. an anime character? Like the violent angry thing is sold because he's a cute blond teenager, but those traits are really not okay and kind of limit him to being comic relief. I find it hard to empathize with him while he acts that way. plus, he did already win, so what's next for him? I think I'd only be interested in his plot if he got an injury or something and had to quit skating.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Who cares, he's a better character than the one dimensional manic pixie bald boy.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
You're talking about the most stereotypical tsundere in existence, you realize.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Still a better and more interesting character than Victor.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
DA, Idk I thought it was hinted that he wasn't this picture perfect guy...that he could be selfish and cold at times?

(which still might not be your cup of tea, just wondering if I read that right...)

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
it's funny because none of the words you said actually describe Victor except "boy".

and even then c'mon he's like 28

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
It was a reference to the manic pixie dream girl trope. From Tvtropes:

Have no fear, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl is here to give new meaning to the male hero's life! She's stunningly attractive, high on life, full of wacky quirks and idiosyncrasies (generally including childlike playfulness and a tendency towards petty crime), often with a touch of wild hair dye. She's inexplicably obsessed with our stuffed-shirt hero, on whom she will focus her kuh-razy antics until he learns to live freely and love madly.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I know what the trope is. And it only applies if a) there's really no reason why the MPDG is in love with the hero and b) the MPDG is not a character with any independence or agency.

We know why Victor is interested in Yuri (initially from the flirting at the party, then building from Victor watching Yuri skate and challenge himself). And Victor is his own character, he doesn't exist solely for Yuri's sake any more than Yurio does. He has his own motivations, friendships, and interests. And he's not perfect, he makes mistakes. And frankly, I'm not sure he's all that kuh-razy and ~quirky~, beyond some anime humor, he's a pretty typical mature adult.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Victor's "reason" for dropping everything and travel to Japan is such a wish fullfilment fantasy that it fits the trope to a T. And giving him a couple of friends doesn't change the fact that he only exists as a tool to develop Yuuri and is barely given any development or narrative of his own.

DA

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
His reasons were that he'd fucking lost his passion for skating. People don't magically stay passionate forever. He lost it well before Yuuri, and then Yuuri managed to spark some passion again.

You really just want this to be the Yurio Tsundere Show, don't you?

Re: DA

So, wish fullfilment fantasy. "And then your hero will notice you and travel to your country because he was omg so inspired by you".

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2017-04-29 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to word it like that, then it's a wish fulfillment fantasy in both ways. "The hero is exactly who you need in your life. He wants you for who you're, gives you back the passion you were missing and in the end you get, thanks to the hero, love, life and inspiration to go on."
