Yeah, why would I think that a show that's not average sport-anime wouldn't use the usual tropes on S2?

For all we know we will fast-forward a few years, Yuuri'll be a teacher and the ice skating club advisor at some school and S2 will be a school sport anime.

International championships of competitive skaters (most of them adults, capable of being mature and not letting a rivalry being what defines them) won't matter; some sort of national (not even the Japanese Championship) will be the main tournament.

You really think it's more likely he next season will fast forward a few years to Yuri being a teacher... than potential rival dynamics? If there is a season 2, there is a 99.99999% chance it's about Yuri finally winning a gold medal.

If you don't like rival dynamics, you don't like them. That doesn't mean there's no way it could ever possibly happen. Considering it's been Yuri's dream since forever to compete against Victor and he's hinted that he even wants to be better than him, it's not as crazy as you think. Even the Grand Prix final was tense between the competitors, it'd be hard to think Yuri and Victor would still be totally chill with one another during that kind of competition.

Competing against Victor =/= Yuuri being his rival becoming the defining trait of their relationship.

It's not a matter of liking or disliking something, it's just watching the damn show and realizing that current rivalries break the usual mold so future ones will probably be the same (as in: any rivalry won't be the pivot of the show or even a plot point for more than one championship) and that, for me, is one of the things I love about it.

What's the point of another show about the MC and his rival and how that's the thing that moves them and the show? I honestly don't why people are so obsessed with YOI becoming such a cliché.

Why are you obsessed with YOI being The Most Original Sports Anime Ever? I don't think anyone on the writing team cares as much about OMG!!! BREAKING CLICHES!!!! as you do. A show can still be good if it has some cliche elements, YOI itself had no shortage of other cliche elements lmao it just used them well. And that's what really matters.

I'm not obsessed, nor do I think is the most original sports anime ever.

I just like that it doesn't depend on some specific overused tropes and I hope don't resort to them (and I honestly think they won't). Is that so hard to understand?

I disagree that any portrayal of rivals in a sports anime cannot be more than a weak cliche. If it's developed, I welcome a sharper portrayal of rivalry in YOI. For Victor and Yuri, it would build off of an existing relationship, which would also make it more interesting - as opposed to typical sports anime that define two characters as rivals first and then backtrack into developing it. I personally expect that there must be some drama in their relationship, otherwise it isn't going to progress and the show won't have any point in continuing.

Oh, I agree there'll be so conflict, and I know they'll compete against each other and see the other as a rival.

But that's is pretty different from a "rivalmance" where the rivalry takes over their whole relationship and becomes the main focus.
