Interesting thread xD. Had this conversation with mum's bf recently, however we pondered autonomy of current computers as he believes humans are just organic scripts (yes, software dev). The context was him wondering if we can blame such an organic system for doing what it was programmed to do. I said that it depends on intent and control one would have.

In other words - I would say opposite to you OP. Robots of the future might be able to reach independent levels. Nope, would not say they would be humans as their evolution and operating patterns might vary. If you add soul to equation - to me it is a form of energy and possibly not inside any machine at the moment as it might not be compatible yet.

The beauty of this is that we do not know (how would sci fi androids operate or what is soul) but might come closer to answer within 100 years.
