Isn't it canon that Hanzo was "forced" to kill Genji by the clan elders because Genji didn't want anything to do with their crimes? It's still a shitty thing to do, but I don't think it was entirely Hanzo's decision to kill his brother. The fact he went into angst-mode after he thought Genji died says a lot; if he didn't regret what he did, he'd probably be in charge of the family and continue their "legacy."

(not even a Hanzo fan or anything; I'm one of those Junkrat and Roadhog woobifiers Anon above mentioned, lol)

I don't think it was really "forced", pretty sure it's canon that Hanzo is big on honor and disgracing the family and shit, and I mean...think about it. If someone said "go kill your sibling" would you be like "oops guess I have to, I don't really want to though!"? If he had love for his brother I feel like running away from the clan together would be more feasible, not "sorry brother I love you but they said you have to die so oh well".

Not to mention it takes a real cold MF-er to slice up your own brother. I have a feeling they didn't think too much into this because it's REALLY nasty, but sword injuries are gruesome as fuck. I imagine Genji was likely split open pretty much. It would make sense regarding why so much of him had to be cyberized.
