Yeah, that seems to happen. For me fandoms seem to be places I want to escape eventually because they're starting to be more painful than happy. I'd like to think it's just a process of outgrowing or needing to move on, that someday I'll be able to go back or look back with more enjoyment, but I'm not really sure. I don't know if this is universal or if some people manage to stay and enjoy fandoms for ages.

da

Honestly? I chalk it up to the general change in fandom climate. It used to be that fandom was primarily about fandom; now it has to be about every social issue under the sun, all the time. There's so much policing now that it takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Well, for me, the fandoms in question were older and took place a few years ago on Livejournal. I've avoided getting too personally involved in any fandoms since. I enjoy the tumblr format more because I'm not connecting closely with anyone, just looking at pretty pics, and moving on when I want to, without much human involvement. (That sounds so wrong, doesn't it?)

Anyway I just don't know that my fandoms were toxic (maybe??) just that I was dealing with some stuff, IDK, and had to move on.

I'd recognize that street, like... oh man, any-- well, 'anywhere' doesn't make any sense, but yeah.

It's not a very toxic fandom, and after the brief 'oh hey we're officially in the future' hooplah, a smaller one, but I can see the melancholy coming from just watching the actors grow older, MJF's Parkinson's... and the fact that I never got my damn (real) hoverboard.

How about anywhen?

Anywhen is brilliant and I'm using it.

plotlines automatically become more ponderous as shows become popular and the PTB get full of themselves and feel they have to bring all the drama.

sometimes I think it's better for a show to die young and brilliant and clean.

Same. I used to use fandom to try and help my depression. Now the current climate just makes me feel so lost. Everything that used to help my depression makes it so much worse now :(
