The Corrino, Atreides, and Harkonnen books were okay, but the rest of them are awful, imo. I had to stop reading them because I did not like how they characterized some of the characters, for one thing.

Neither Brian Herbert or Kevin J. Anderson have the rich subtly that Frank Herbert had. Frank Herbert's later Dune books may be boring for some, but there was a depth to them.

I think Kevin J. Anderson's part in The Tales of the Jedi comics is his best work.

It's not up to JLaw's character, because JLaw's character is not a real person. It's up to the person writing the story how they chose to tell it, and the specific choice made was a bad one to make especially in the context of a movie that was certainly marketed as a romance. I agree with the importance of empathy and forgiveness but they become really weird constructs when you apply them to works of fiction. And I think giving those characters that ending does - in the specific context of the movie - minimize what he did, just inevitably.

Yeah, that seems to happen. For me fandoms seem to be places I want to escape eventually because they're starting to be more painful than happy. I'd like to think it's just a process of outgrowing or needing to move on, that someday I'll be able to go back or look back with more enjoyment, but I'm not really sure. I don't know if this is universal or if some people manage to stay and enjoy fandoms for ages.

This. One thing I can't stand about the current resurgence of the SW fandom is Leia stans on tumblr just relentlessly shitting on Luke to make her look better.

Most fan writers have occasionally written fix-it fic, haven't they? I hope it didn't offend or hurt you to see someone doing that to yours. I mean, it's not bad to be inspired by someone else's fic. Although one would hope the inspiration or urge to write (generally) comes from a better, less "fix-it" place. I've definitely had to write some fix-its after reading some dark shit. Not fun. But there weren't many warnings in those days, so you couldn't easily avoid stories that ended with someone dying horribly, etc.
