So... What does he actually do?

Also why would I want to see that, in space or anywhere else?

As I understand it, they're both passengers on this luxury spaceship heading to colonize a new planet. Everyone is in suspended sleep because it's going to take 100+ years to get there, but something happens and Chris Pratt's character wakes up from his sleep by accident and finds himself alone, in space, unable to reach Earth or do anything about it. Not surprisingly, it makes him go a little crazy and he decides to rig up a malfunction for Jlaw's sleep pod so he can have her company (because he's already kinda in love with her from watching videos about her) but he doesn't tell her that he did this on purpose. They fall in love, and eventually she finds out by accident what he did and the shit hits the fan.

as somebody who's actually seen the film... pretty close

one thing worth mentioning is that the "something happens" to knock out pratt's sleep pod (the ship hit a space rock, or something) is only the first stage in a cascading systemic failure that will ultimately kill the ship and all the other colonists on it; i can't remember if he discovers this before or after he wakes up jlaw though

so if he doesn't wake her up then she's going to die anyway when the ship breaks, which is a whole other load of moral questions

also morpheus' sleep pod eventually malfunctions and wakes him up too but the malfunction weakens him in the process (the rejuvenation from sleep goes haywire), leaving him alive only just long enough to give pratt and jlaw the keys to the main control room

See, to me, what happens later (ship breaking down), makes no difference. He didn't know that was going to happen, so that can have no relevance to what he did.

as i said, i couldn't remember if he knew about the problems before he woke her up (istr there were hints - food dispensers going a bit mad, other little glitches - but maybe not anything actually definitive, which is why i can't remember)

will buy blu-ray on monday and check

From reviews, he's on a colony ship where everyone's in cryosleep for the several hundred year journey to a new planet. His pod malfunctions and he wakes up and is now doomed to die before he arrives on the planet. So he finds a pretty lady, wakes her up, pretends her pod malfunctioned too, and seduces her. She finds out that he deliberately woke her up and ruined her chance at starting a new life on a planet and deliberately doomed her to die with him on the ship and is mad at first but forgives him because twu wuv.

To be perfectly fair, he didn't just up and decide "she's nice, I think I'll wake her up and doom her to die with me." He struggled with the decision for what looked like an entire year and felt horribly guilty afterward.

I dunno if I could go a whole year without human interaction and not make the same decision...
