I think that's pretty natural, OP. They were good children's books, and to many they'll always be a nostalgic fave just because they were such a huge part of their childhood/teen years. But sometimes when you go back and reread a book you loved as a kid, it doesn't stand the test of time. And frankly, the best part of Rowling's writing is the setting and to a lesser extent, the characters. Her actual writing was adequate for the most part, but sloppy with continuity errors and the later books didn't get the level of editing they needed.
