THAT'S THE JOKE

[anons cannot post images.]

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Just coming here to say this. This bait and switch was quite an original joke/twist, and I loved it.

heihei is a lot easier to shove in the tiny storage area in the canoe

(Anonymous) 2017-05-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And he turned out to be helpful.

tbh I was really glad. The pig would have been standard and cliche.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
But I don't want another of the same sidekick

(Anonymous) 2017-05-03 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
really? i was so glad it wasn't the stupid cutesy anthropomorphised pig, i can so without animals acting like humans ty.

it felt like they only put it in because heihei wasn't gonna sell cute merch

ALL GLORY TO HYPNO HEIHEI

(Anonymous) 2017-05-03 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly, I fpund it strange that the animal companions were things that were likely kept on the island to be eaten.

I haven't seen this movie. She had a chicken and a piglet? Did she have a Polynesian rat for the trifecta of typical Polynesian meat animals?

I wondered about that too, though idk, maybe they keep them as pets also? I don't know so much about culture of that area.

I know farm people who treated certain animals like pets but still ate them when they died.

As a pet lover, this disturbs me.

I liked the chicken tbh, it was so stupid yet I laughed several times at its antics. I do find it weird however that the promo stuff had the pig feature more prominently while the chicken was barely there so it made me think the pig was going to be the standard cute sidekick. But I'm not annoyed it was the chicken instead.

I dunno, at least the "too stupid to live, too dumb to die" chicken was a way more unique animal sidekick than the small, cutesy pig (that somehow stayed a piglet over the course of YEARS).

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, Pua was a runt as revealed in deleted scenes.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know Disney doesn't do movies without animal sidekicks but I didn't think the movie needed one at all.

Like the pig was cute but barely there since most of the movie was out on the ocean, and I was fine with chicken but it also didn't add anything? Like some animal companions in Disney movies have a real purpose and integral to the plot but I felt like Moana didn't need one.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
At least he acted like a real chicken instead of an anthro pig. Source: my wife worked on farms and raised chickens. She knows how stupid they can be.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's a quirky POC thing. Greetings from Hollywood.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression that Pua was going to have a bigger role because of the trailers and merchandise. I didn't really care for Heihei.

I thought it would have been nice if Moana's animal companion was the sea turtle she saved when she was a toddler.

Aw, I loved Heihei! He was like the chicken version of Moon Moon.

apparently the chicken was supposed to be a completely different character but they changed it later, maybe that's why it seemed annoying?

i liked the chicken, but i agree that pua should have gone on the whole ~adventure~, since he seemed more... adequate? for the animal companion role, and like, whynotboth.gif, you know

(Anonymous) 2017-05-04 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I prefer Heihei because Pua was... Anthro pig, basically, while Heihei acts like a chicken. Which is nice and something different.
