If they were kept in their own little separate area, I would not be bothered by them. When I read FANFIC I want to read about the characters. Not an OC, not a 'Reader' fic, etc. And they are so annoying to try and filter out (especially on mobile).

Also, every one that I have accidentally read has been written terribly.

This is also v true. They wouldn't be nearly as annoying if they had one standard form of tagging, but they don't.

Fucking this. I want to read about the characters and how people would interpret them as they get into certain situations with each other. I don't want to read stuff that's just meant to be the author's private wank material.

But don't people tag "oc/mc" or "reader/mc"? I always tag my ocs...

Thing is, on mobile AO3, you need a huge search string of -"thing you don't want to read" and a lot of people tag their stories with the CharacterxReader shiptag but not with just "Reader" separately. So you have to manually write out every single CharacterxReader variation you don't want to see and even then you never catch them all.
