I'm actually halfway with OP on this one. There's something about their dynamic that feels really . . . minstrel-y? It certainly doesn't help that there aren't any late night show hosts of color, either.

FWIW I haven't watched other late night shows in their entirety, only in clips, so I don't have anything to compare Batiste/Colbert to. But I suspect that dynamic would bug me in those shows, too.

+1 maybe it's because I feel like the interactions are a bit awkward but the whole white host/black band feels like a weird staple of late night.
