I feel like part of this change in attitude in fandom has happened because we keep catering to minors who act like the authority on everything and see everything as abuse and if you like anything that's not pure and wholesome smolbeans you are an . It's gotten really bad these past few years and no ones telling these kids to shut the hell up and take responsibility for monitoring their own fandom intake and stop being entitled.

I think people are understandably worried about minors online with the way things used to be, where it was easier for a minor to be preyed on and you've got this group of minors who are exploiting it.

You have lots of people who have been legitimatly preyed on and hurt and and a sense of caution about that, and then you have people who capitalize on this idea of looking out for minors by taking a mile more than what they're being given. Who will screech "I'm uncomfortable" when they see what they dislike and go around calling people who make what they don't like "predators" and "abusers"

I might get hate for this but in these types of communities "abuse" is being used as a catch all term for being wronged.

PS: this is not to say that I don't think people are abused in fandom. They are and its a real problem. And in some cases they're abused by these people who act like they're on the lookout for possible predators and all about social justice.

I don't deny that there was abuse back then but thats in regards to interacting with other people. I'm talking about when you go look for fanart or fanfic that's clearly labeled appropriately and there's a personal responsibility of choosing to go ahead and look anyways. Back in the lj era it was very much you are responsible for the content you consume and if you are underage don't go whining to me after I had clearly labeled it.

Nowdays it's anything not wholesome and good is wrong!!! Teenagers having sex is pedophelia!!! Arguments are abuse. An adult interacting with a minor should be illegal. Uwu friendly reminder that by you being 20 and I am a small vulnerable baby 17 year old means you are oppressing me!!

It's gotten ridiculous considering I think of my fandom experience when I stumbled upon NSFW fanfic when I was 13 and had an oh gross/neat reaction because I was 13 but I didn't blame anyone because, well, I choose to click the link.

Ah yeah that is a problem.

I mean in fandom and fanfic ime there's always been a problem with people who aren't happy that its labeled it needs to not be online because its in their way. And this is honestly to me just a more moralistic take on that same problem.

Back in earlier days it took the form of "ughhh I hate fics like that stop POSTING them." type shit. and now it's "omg you are literally abusing me by putting that where I could find that"
