There was a trend for laser pointers for a while. You know, the things that people use to play with their cats?

Honestly, I wasn't a fan myself, since some kid pointed one in my eye.

There was also a fad for those squishy gray erasers. I think those kind of served the same purpose of the "slime" that kids make today - you could squish and play with it in class. I don't think the teachers really hated those, since they weren't noisy or distracting.
