I think if kids don't want to follow adults or be followed by them, that's fine. I don't see the point in getting riled up about that.

I don't think anyine can expect - or has the right to demand - that any social media platform be only used by a certain age group. For one thing, even if you get into it when young, you will grow older and won't automatically feel like giving it up (especially since your friends on are growing older with you, so why would you walk away from that?).

For another, there was a time when far fewer kids were in the internet and most spaces were primarilly adult, and adults weren't going to go away because the platforms changed or more kids started popping up. "The internet/this platform is for kids" is kind of ignorant. The flip side is that lots of kids are online and have been for

Oops, hit the wrong button.

...and have been for a long time, and can go pretty much where ever adults go, so assuming a space is naturally adults only doesn't fly, either.

I think safe spaces can only be such if they are clrearly designated and maintained. Expecting certain people to just magically know they shouldn't wander into your entirely public tumblr is futile.
