Re: Your favourite tv show or movie that no one but you watched
This was in the mid-90s. It seemed to be either a sequel to a made-for-TV movie or a pilot which the channel never re-ran. I'd read Lonesome Dove and had seen the movies, and this show followed Newt Call in his life as an outlaw in a mining town, but it dwelled on the fallout of some events that appeared only in the opening credits.
I loved it because it was grim as fuck. Newt had been married to a young woman (Mary?) who had died in a fire. Her brother Austin was the town's sheriff, and he blamed Newt for his sister's death. Mary's father had been the editor of the town newspaper, but since her death had turned into a shiftless drunk. The nearby mine had been bought by Clay Mosby, a rich businessman/veteran of the Confederate Army who was charming and smarmy (played by Eric McCormack, pre-"Will and Grace") and had Big Plans for the town which all the locals hated. A young woman named Mattie drifted into town and was prickly and asocial as hell, but there was some romantic tension between her and Newt (and Clay Mosby, although that could have been wishful thinking on my part, because he was my favorite).
It ran for one or two seasons on some obscure cable channel I found at the end of the channel range in our cable package and never appeared in TV Guide, and it would re-run every so often but I never knew when, so I don't know if I saw all the episodes. None of my friends had seen it and didn't have any interest when I told them about it, so it felt like a secret TV show only I knew about.
It probably wasn't very good, but I love Westerns and loved Lonesome Dove, so it was right up my alley.
