that on tumblr aging young characters up is now bad because "they're a minor"

Everyone was a minor once. you were a minor , that bus driver was a minor , that hot person you checked out earlier? A minor.

Like I don't get this. If they're aging them up it seems clear that they like the character but want them to be the proper age for it. Are we not supposed to see a character that's a kid as anything but a kid ever?

I was never a minor. I was born at the ripe old age of 40. That's right, I was and have always been "the mom friend".

I agree that it's illogical, but... I really don't think it's the worst thing in the world for people to be a little overly sensitive to the idea of sexualizing minors. It's better than the alternative.

Yes, obviously, people who has that as an excuse to be assholes about it are assholes. The same way that the assholes who use literally everything that's ever happened on the Internet as an excuse to be an asshole are assholes.

I mean.. I understand being concerned about sexualizing minors. But opposing to aging up characters just doesn't make sense to me. people grow. So it feels weird to think of characters as static as if they'll never grow up.

and when a character grows up they're...not a minor in that context so I don't know why people accuse someone who ages up a character as sexualising a minor when well they're NOT.

its not so much that I'm bothered by people being grossed out at sexualizing a minor but people acting like if a character is a minor in canon they should be treated like they're a minor no matter what. Accusing people of sexualizing characters that aren't minors in the context they're shipping them or whatever just makes no sense.

No, it really is the worst thing. It's really ridiculously traumatizing and triggering for survivors to have to navigate a minefield of pedo accusations being thrown over stupid shit. It's insulting as hell to have something that fucked you over so badly be used as meaningless buzzwords to try and win fandom drama. Don't ever excuse it.

This is the thing that bothers me about it most. People throw around that accusation too easily nowadays.

I hate how people think its excused by claiming they're concerned about the kids (especially when the same person has also outright said that they're fine with a kid being beaten up {"they're old enough to face consequences"} because they support the politican/party that their parent does).

That and we all know that nobody is NICE to the person that they've decided must be a pedophile so add bullying on top of that.

Probably the saddest thing was I saw someone post that when they were 14 they said they liked a 15 year old character and got screamed at and dogpiled for being a pedophile.

I believe it since they said they didn't specify their age at the time so people were assuming they were an adult

It sounds fake to me because the way it's phrased "when they were 14" makes it sound like something that happened years ago. And years ago, people didn't call other people pedophiles for having crushes on fictional teenagers. It just didn't happen, and especially not to a dogpiling degree. If one odd person did it, they would be more likely to get dogpiled by everyone else for making such a stupid accusation.

It would have been 3-4 years ago. The big "Sherlock/Watson shippers are pedo, but not Watson/Sherlock shippers" wank started two years ago. So that's not an unreasonable timeframe.

I though the whole "A/B is a completely different pairing to B/A, because yaoi tropes" was a thing of the past, but this is the second reference I've seen to it.

You sound like someone who doesn't like to see the issues with it and just calls every negative experience fake or blames it on enemy trolls pretending to be social justice bloggers.
