I just saw this pic of a jar of boy syrup on tumblr, with the caption "proper punctuation is everything." What was wrong with the punctuation on the jar? The only punctuation is the exclamation point after the "Oh!" which seems to make sense?

It could be read to imply that the product being sold is "boy syrup"

...isn't that what the product is, though?

Okay, well, with that question you've now plunged me into a nether-world in which I am certain of nothing, but. It looks to me like the food being sold is the kind of sweet, flavored syrup you would put on pancakes or waffles, which I have never heard described as "boy syrup". I don't even know what boy syrup would be, except a euphemism for semen.

Semen? Seriously, ew, no.

Boy syrup is just what the name implies... boy syrup.

When I was in school, there were always a few boys who kept making trouble, getting suspended, and so on. After a few times, they'd be taken to a big room with these boilers. You'd boil them until all the flesh dissolved and came off the bones, then pull the bones out with a net, and what was left, was Boy Syrup. There were sweet versions, in all kinds of flavors. You could put it on waffles, pancakes, or ice cream.

How on Earth does "Oh! Boy" make sense?

I thought "Oh!" was the brand, but maybe it's just meant to be an expression of surprise and excitement someone could be making about the syrup? Like "Oh! You bought some boy syrup!"

Looking at the explanation of "boy syrup" that finally came out, definitely a troll. But I kind of appreciate their style.

I do think they need a little refinement, though. It's not a bad start, but a little subtlety goes a long way.

Yeah. I have a thing for someone being nonsensical but pretending it's everyone else who's not making sense, and they definitely could have drawn that part out longer.

But I did enjoy the disgust at the idea of boy syrup being semen and then correcting it with something else disgusting.

Weeeeeell....normally, it would be: Oh boy! Syrup!, 'oh boy' being an exclamation of delight or excitement.

From my understanding it should be OH, BOY! SYRUP.

I'm with someone else who posted that it should probably be "Oh Boy! Syrup", but if I could offer up a different possibility...

Is it possible that this is Boysenberry Syrup (my personal favorite syrup) and that the creators were trying to be clever? In which case, there should either be a period (Boy. Syrup), or it should be written "Boy(senberry) Syrup", perhaps with the parenthesis in a tiny font.

If that's NOT the case, then they're missing a trick.
