Re: Do you think goodness is an innate quality?

I do think humans evolved to exhibit pro-social behaviors, yeah, since we are social animals and generally being good to your neighbor is good for the colony, so to speak. So I think most humans do have "goodness" as an innate quality. I think, generally, people don't like to hurt others or at least disinclined toward it, and feel distressed if they see someone getting hurt, and are compelled to help. I think humans innately feel positive about the idea of goodness.

But that isn't to say violent or "bad" behavior isn't innate, too. And these terms are really hard to define anyway, especially considering circumstantial issues or societal expectations. Still, I think humans are generally compelled to be helpful, to feel empathy and compassionate toward others, and uncomfortable with the suffering of others if they see it directly.
