I think humans are always inclined towards pro-social behaviour. But I also think almost everyone is capable of actions we would call evil.

There are very few who are brave enough to be good in the face of overwhelming adversity. I'm thinking of people like the German students who stood up against the Nazi regime - in particular the girl whose last words were defiant even as she faced a firing squad.
