The time-turns in Harry Potter.

The cloaking devices in Hornblower. Time after time the French don't notice the British boats sneaking ashore, or the bloody great frigates sailing up to the rescue of the shore party well within cannon shot. Cloaking devices is the only explanation I've got.

Nah, the frogs were just stupid. (Would probably be the in-universe explanation, that is.)
