What are some plot holes in movie and TV that still drive you crazy?

The stupid Tribble blood stops death thing from Into Darkness. Makes no sense and suddenly it is stupid that the Federation isn't breeding tribbles and keeping them in all medical bays.

The Matrix one where Cypher is in the Matrix talking to Smith without having someone on the outside to plug him in. How did he get in? And how did everyone not know he was there?

The Reapers of Doctor Who were a stupid edition in one episode that never appear again, which is a massive plot hole.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade- "The penitant man will kneel" and then duck and role for the swinging saw? How did Indy know that second part?

Were the Reapers those things that appeared in that episode with Rose and her dad because of the broken timeline?

Huh. I didn't realize they never showed up again. (I kinda fell off a few episodes into Ten's first season)

Yeah I don't mind the reapers but they make very little sense considering how many times the Doctor and his companions have fucked up time and there's been no consequence.

Though to be honest I kind of wish there were more consequences to the Doctor's actions...

It wasn't the fact that it was tribble blood. The tribble had been injected with a sample of Khan's blood, which re-animated it. It's why Khan had to be taken alive so Bones could work on bringing Jim back since he saw what it did to the tribble.

But damn Into Darkness was a terrible, terrible movie.

Wasn't it that Khan's blood brought the Tribble back to life, or something like that? And then they used it on Kirk. I seem to recall thinking that the Federation would then keep all those people frozen as a giant supply of Khan-sicles that they could use in their medical wing.

Was it the tribble? I thought it was Khan! Now I am unsure. Either way, yes, that was dumb.

I haven't watched in years so I'm still hazy on it but I always felt like Ford in SGA had a very open ended death, like as in I didn't know he was even gone for good until I read a writer's blog.

I think the problem was they had made him so invincible that you really needed to see his death and know for sure, but the way he was killed was just "oh by the way he was on that ship that exploded."

They weren't sure if they were going to bring the actor and character back, so they left it opened ended. In the end they rolled the story ideas they would have used into two different characters, Michael and Todd, and let Ford have bought it. SGA did waste a lot of characters and potential stories, but in fairness the showrunners thought it was going to run for SG1 level of years so they left a lot hanging so they wouldn't end up having to do what SG1 did in terms of scrabbling to create new threats and characters all the time. I'm not sure SGA would have been that popular, but it was popular enough and had enough story and good characters that it didn't deserve being cut so short. Network politics, its a fucking bitch.

In nu!Star Trek, if only a single drop of red matter was capable of creating a singularity, then why did Spock waste so much time amassing the universe's largest ball of red matter?!?! He probably could have got to the planet in time to save it if he'd gone with a smaller amount.

Next question: when Nero goes back in the past, why does he just hang around to plot vengeance. Why doesn't he plot to save his world so that it doesn't blow up? Or at least put measures in place to save his family?

1. It is possible it is only stable in large amounts.

2. There were supposed to be some scenes which showed that Kirk Sr. crippled the Narada enough for the crew to be taken prisoner by the Klingons and it took the twenty years to escape. JJ decided to cut those scenes which would have both added to Kirk Sr.'s heroism/sacrifice, and which explained the story, in favor of more lens flare, nonsensical "cool" looking scenes which ignore how big space is and Uhura sleeping her way onto the Enterprise bridge by schtupping her examiner. Way to go JJ. Great cinematic choices there, man.

The time-turns in Harry Potter.

The cloaking devices in Hornblower. Time after time the French don't notice the British boats sneaking ashore, or the bloody great frigates sailing up to the rescue of the shore party well within cannon shot. Cloaking devices is the only explanation I've got.

Nah, the frogs were just stupid. (Would probably be the in-universe explanation, that is.)
