It's going to be differemt for everyone, and it's not always something that makes logical sense (e.g. related to how big a fan you were, and so on).

I was surprised by how sad I was over Prince's death, since I was never into his music much, but I'm from Minnesota, and also his death was so unnecessary. He was this amazing talent with a reputation for healthy living and he dies from an overdose.

I was a bigger fan of Bowie, and have fond memories of watching Labyrinth as a kid, but as much as it was a shock, his death was less sad to me. He had terminal cancer. What are you gonna do?

Despite being a 90s teen, I had never heard of Chris Cornell before he died, so...
