Secret 7 got me thinking about how I have the same issue in fandom with people assuming that if you like something "problematic," you don't know it's problematic and they need to tell you that it is. For one instance, it'd be so nice to be able to talk about one of my favorite characters in a certain fandom, but on tumblr the fandom doesn't get that it's possible to discuss him except for "Uuummmmm you know he did something skeevy and the narrative didn't address it? That's fucked up sweetie." Fucking shitballs YES I know, because any idiot could tell that part was written badly and I have never said that it wasn't because I'm not an idiot and I don't need to be educated about it, so can we move the fuck ON already?

Yeah this is always annoying. I tend to like piece of shit characters because they're pieces of shit, I don't need a lecture on how the character is a bad person I ALREADY KNOW.

And no, this doesn't mean I approve of people doing bad things in real life, the fuck?

I blame modern online videogames. They have broken down the distinction between fictional character and actual person. If the character is a bad person then it must be bad people that like them and play them. In general the current state of the internet has severely degraded the distinction between person and character. Everyone can only be one-note all the time regardless of situation.
