I don't get it. It seems like someone had a dumb idea, someone else told her it was dumb, she said okay, not doing it. Where is the drama and hilarity?

That person, ironically, had a habit of demonizing people with mental illnesses.

The voltron blackmail is pretty tastey in a semi illegal kinda way.

The Tokyo ghoul wank was pretty good too.

you're just missing that one of official writers of powerpuff girl reboot has a self insert that's been written into the show multiple times and has had blossom fall for him

And the whole make a wish kid revealing steven universe spoilers (that she got the okay for) and some popular youtuber getting extra salty about and causing a shitshow

That PPG one seems like creepy business.

The SU one is pretty much BAU at this point.

I know people getting caught up in it because they guessed Lotor's character design pretty close-ish back a long time ago. But obviously they're exploiting the leaks for fame (using time travel?)

What happened with Tokyo Ghoul (other than the really uncomfortable seeming potential decision to pair the protag with a girl who's physically hit him a few times when he's been through abuse before)?

Nothing else happened, people were losing their shit and calling the mangaka homophobic for pairing up the main character with a girl instead of the fujoshi-preferred guy. The "abuse" issue didn't really come up, I think, even though that would probably be a much more valid reason to be upset about this instead of "super popular seinen/horror manga has het canon ship, stop the presses".
(I'm a slasher, too, but damn, the entitlement and rudeness of some so-called fans is ridiculous.)

Eh, the only people I know into it do prefer the guy, but moreso because he doesn't apparently slam the love interest's head into things and beat the shit out of him and would prefer it because it wouldn't be an abused kid heading into another abusive relationship, which a lot of abused fandom people are becoming sick of in media. Which I agree with.

I absolutely agree that this is a shitty trope that needs to die already!
But the main thing I've seen people accusing the mangaka of/cite as the reason for their threats and suicide suggestions is "homophobia", not "but she abused him". And even though that's a terrible trope, it's still not a reason to threaten a creator over.
(Though I have to admit I'm not in the fandom, but I've seen quite a few tweets and it's pretty nasty.)

Funnily enough I had no idea she hit him - Its not my fandom - But I damn sure knew she was a girl. Accusations of homophobia, death threats, and pleas for the mangka to kill himself all centered on the fact that she was a girl and not a boy.

Yup. Then again this is anime. Guys gotta take all sorts of shit in anime from the girls they like. It's part of the tsundere thing. Hell if any of the gay shop from Fandom ever came through I'm sure the majority of them would be equally abusive.

I suppose it comes down to how it's played. If he gets up and rubs his head grumbling about the crazy woman, I'd say it's typical tsundere stuff. If he doesn't get up and starts bleeding out his ears, or we see him later weeping about it, it's played as abuse and fucked up - although even then not the worse relationship Canon in anime.

All that aside I don't seem to be seeing anyone complain about that element so much as the "They sunk my ship, and I those homophobes!" element.

I'm not in the YOI fandom but from what I've seen on my dash lately, the fandom is having a freakout because some of them believe an 18 year old hypothetically dating a 16 year old is "pedophilia"

Can I carve the definition of ephebophilia into some people's foreheads?

And tbh, it's not even really ephebophilia because that usually only applies to older adults with a fetish or attraction to teenagers which... really doesn't work if it's about two literal teenagers with a 2 year age difference and only gets this much scrutiny just because one of the teenagers is 18. That's actually a very, very common age difference for people in relationships irl.

Hence the word incomprehension.

Seriously people Do Not Understand that a paraphilia is entirely based on that specific thing. If your paraphilia is for fucking trains, you probably don't want a perfectly sexy train magically transformed into a conventionally attractive human. So unless the fact they're a teenager is specifically what turns them on (especially when they're a freakin' teenager themselves!!) it's not a -philia. It's like Hollywood-Unattractive Fat Middle Aged People Having Sex can be a kink, but it can also just be... you know... a huge percentage of the population fucking their spouse or someone else in their age group. Maybe all these tumblr kids need to sit down their actual fathers and kinkshame them for their serious MILF-fetishes because why else would they have married a woman and then had a kid or kids with her?

Seriously, by some people's definition, my high school boyfriend would've committed pedophilia/ephebophilia simply because he was a mere year older than me.

I just...how do people seriously not understand that they need to be very careful with throwing around words like that?
