I hear that Lucas was the one insisting on the aliens and the movie was delayed because Ford and Spielberg didn't want them. But I has no proof, so, :/.

Lucas would insist on something lame like that. I will always insist that the movies he has been a part of have been good -despite- him, never because of him.
