Honestly, I haven't asked him, but I probably should. The thing is, my dad is one of those crazy right-wing Republican wannabe-redneck hunter types. He probably thinks that "having a gay kid" couldn't POSSIBLY "happen" to him. He's too much of a pussy to cut me off from funds or hate me, but that's the kind of attitude he has, and he's made comments about me "looking at guys" that really make me think that he has no idea. (And seriously, just the other day he said something about "popular girls." I said something to the effect of, "... what the fuck, Dad, I'm not eight anymore." :| He's clueless.)

Ugh, denial. Actually, I went through something similar when my own health conditions first started showing up. At first, according to my parents, I was faking. And then once they realized I had legitimate problems it was, "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST TAKE A PILL AND GET BETTER?" My mom's accepted it by now, but my dad thinks I play sick to get out of things. Bah.

My parents are kind of like that and I'm glad I'm not gay for this reason. I have enough stress in my life. :( On the other hand, I shouldn't preach because I'm a zecrit atheist.

Oh god I was a supersekrit atheist for a couple of years. When I was thirteen, I finally said to my mom, "Um, mom, I don't believe in the Bible. I kind of never have. Sorry. Just thought you should know why I've been so agitated lately. =/" While she was initially okay with it, a couple of days later she freaked out and was like, "HOW CAN YOU NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS I FAILED YOU AS A CHRISTIAN PARENT I'M SORRY THAT THINGS TURNED OUT THIS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!" She's since gotten over herself, but seriously, it was bad for about a year. I wish you the best of luck. ;_;

I think it'll go fine, but I want to wait until I'm not living with my parents anymore. Which should be as soon as I find a job. And then I'll try to ease them into it.

That's definitely a good plan. I always knew that my mom would come around eventually and that if my dad didn't, my mom could strongarm him, so I didn't care. But seriously, it must be terrifying wondering if you're going to get kicked out for believing a certain thing or being a certain way. =/

I don't think they'd kick me out; it'd just be awkward because I think they'd still insist I go to church.

On the other hand, their patience with me is pretty thin. I use curse words! Sometimes! I dyed my hair!

Personally, I'm some strange combination of pagan and atheist and I love church for the gospel music. I don't know what it is, but there is just something so cool about belting out a gospel song with a bunch of people gettin' their church on and clapping and swaying and going, "PUHHHRAAAAISE JEZUS!!!! LAWDY!!!" (THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY THING I LIKE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA.)

Oh dear oh me oh my! Watch out, you better not paint your nails black or wear eye makeup. Because, you know, that could be a sign that you worship Satan.

*Looks at nails* OMG!!! My toenails too! IT'S CATCHING!

I like church too, except for the sermons and Sunday school is a little awkward because it's like "What is your relationship with God like?" and I'm like "Uhm ..." But the ritual of going to church is very soothing and centering.
