I'm pretty sure they do. Mom has started to voice her opinions about it very subtly lately, and they're not all positive. I'm trying to ignore it, because in the end, I'm a grown-up, and it's my decision, but... my family means a lot to me, and I'm not sure that I would feel comfortable with myself if I became someone who they can't have as a member of their family, no matter how much I dislike who I am now.

If you read my other comments you can see that I'm in sort of the same situation; family therapy helped me a lot, but I think our goal should be to be independent enough to move out, right?

Oh, that isn't an issue. I'm independent enough to move out, I've always been very independent. It's not that I don't think that I'd be able to make it without my family's support, it's that I love them and respect them. If I make them disappointed, that's something I could deal with, if I make them hate me or even dislike me, that's something else entirely.
