Your boss sounds like an insecure arsehole who needs to affirm their power with dick moves such as that /: it's snide af because, consciously or not, he knows you have no opportunity to defend yourself in public especially if he mentions you all of a sudden. I suppose at LEAST he gave you an opportunity to explain yourself.

I know looking for a new job is an incredibly exhausting process and it takes up so much time and energy, it's really difficult to start while you are still employed. But there has to be something better for you, definitely! At least with an acceptable work atmosphere. I don't think it's too much to ask for a job that *at least* doesn't constantly make you feel horrible. Especially when, to practical effects, is only a source of income. Also a larger city means more opportunities.

We don't know each other, but the history rings close to home - my partner's work environment is very toxic, but the conditions (three months' notice or no social security, for example) make it also difficult to leave. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for teh support. Yeah, looking at job listings for the larger city, it looks like there is a wealth of jobs. Hopefully they don't all mysteriously disappear before I get there. :P

I hope your partner's situation changes soon! Three month's notice sounds extreme! I didn't think that they could deny social security like that.
