Honestly, I love Sense8 but I just don't really understand people being mad at Netflix for cancelling it. Personally, I'm still kind of grateful to Netflix for giving us two seasons of it. It was incredibly diverse and incredibly expensive; they had to know it was unlikely to be a financial success for them. Yet they still threw an unprecedented amount of money into it, twice over. And by appearances, it seems like they didn't try to "tone it down" (i.e. focus more on the white/straight characters) to bring in a wider audience, either. The fact that Netflix let the show be what it was for as long as they did, at such a high price tag, is pretty great.

Except that it ended on a cliffhanger with *no* resolution for any character. And really - on their multi-billion dollar budget, it wasn't that expensive.

I'm not going to be grateful for crumbs. What, LGBTQ people can't have expensive shows? We only get to have two (very short) seasons of a really amazing, representative and inclusive show, but hey, at least we got that much? Fuck that.

Except it wasn't "crumbs." It was the most expensive TV show ever made. It was also extremely diverse, and progressive in how it handled that diversity.

The bottom line is that Netflix is out to make money, just as every Network is. But instead of choosing the path of least resistance and highest probability of success, they chose a path of a lot of resistance and a low probability of monetary success.

Being mad at Netflix after all of that just seems like throwing a fit because they didn't give you what you want. I'm sad the show was cancelled, but I was also pleasantly surprised it existed in the first place, and I was even more pleasantly surprised when it got a second season. It's not a commercial network or a streaming service's job to be a charity fund for projects we deem "more worthy" for one reason or another. The most we can reasonably ask is that they give new content a decent chance to earn its keep rather than shooting it down at conception because some exec with poll stats is saying the odds are against it.

Uh, no, it was not. 'The Crown' - white royalty! - is more expensive. Is, in fact, the most expensive show on Netflix, clocking in at 120 million a season. Right after? 'The Get Down' - another show that was cancelled, but was also more expensive per season than Sense8.

And please - stop with this 'omg, you're being so entitled' blah blah. I want what's on my tv/computer to *reflect me and my life*, and i don't think that's too much to ask, since they manage to cater to white, straight people endlessly.

For fuck's sake - I'm pissed at Netflix, but until you came at me with this stupid 'be happy for your crumbs!' bullshite, i wasn't anywhere near 'throwing a fit'.

God's teeth.
