I feel this way about a lot of the non-smutty fics I have bookmarked, especially long, action-adventure ones. My standards are pretty low for smut. If it is even slightly hot, I'm good. But with longer fics, my standards are much higher now. A lot of the old Harry Potter fics I used to love just don't do it for me anymore.

It always sucks when you lose interest in something, OP! Sorry to hear that. :\

This is something I've noticed about fanfiction in general, sadly. When you're not in the fandom actively and emotionally engaged by the characters already, I think a lot of fics lose their luster. Even if it's an old favorite, or a fandom you still have fond feelings for.
There's something about the way that fic plays on emotion, I think. A lot of it isn't actively trying to "make" you care, because it runs on the assumption that you already do.

Maybe take a break.

Read books - doesn't have to be fiction. You may just be a little burned out. After a while, maybe a new fandom will catch your interest or you might start longing for those old favorites, but if it doesn't happen right away, that's fine too, just try to find something else that excites you.

I'm feeling like that too right now. I used to read fanfiction constantly, and now I don't read anything at all. I have no new fandoms, and my old favs and smut fics don't do it anymore. I feel lost too. :/ I used to get so much pleasure out of reading fanfic!

I know how you feel. What's even worse is having a bunch of highly recommended fics queued up but never getting around to it then completely losing interest in the fandom/characters so you never read them at all.

Same, honestly.

I'm at the same point, anon. For the moment, I've moved on to things I'm fannish about, but wouldn't write fic on, like sports fandom.
