It's more like, I don't get the expectation that others are actually going to read your self-insert Mary Sue fic, so it's the most annoying when it's posted all over the fucking place begging for reviews.

I agree that they are perfectly fantastic to write, they can be fun fantasies and anything that gets you to sit down and write is constructive. If you post it, cool, good for you. Just don't expect to get a following, and it's a little weird to advertise it everywhere.

Yeah I think people begging others to read it takes me back to my "why" question (and I was assuming this could be part of it when someone posts something in public, because you don't post something for the whole internet to read if you DON'T want someone to read it.)

If you want to write it, cool, but not everything we write has to be seen by other people nor are other people always going to get enjoyment out of it. I can understand maybe showing self insert to a friend if they seemed interested and/or you ask them to look at it just to critique your writing. Otherwise don't expect people to be into it.
