I never understood the appeal of gossip rags and reality TV until I realised that it's probably entertaining for exactly the same reason why I just can't stop reading fandom wank.

I went through a phase where I used to read celeb gossip (until I realised it was leading to some pretty dark internalised misogyny and weaned myself off it) and to be honest you're right. It's also kind of comforting to know other people are screwing up as bad as or worse than you are.
