It varies so much!! Where are you going? What kind of food do you eat? And souvenirs, that's so generic, I can spend $20 in one trip and $100/day on another.

My general advice is to have about $20/day cash and bring multiple credit cards. Call your credit card company ahead of time to let them know you'll be away on vacation and find out if they charge any foreign transaction fees.

I've mostly traveled in major cities in Europe and Japan and all over the US, so using a credit card is never an issue.
