I think it's not that people don't notice it, it's just that sameface and recycled designs are so common in anime style video games that it's just a given and not really worth dwelling on.

I don't disagree with you OP, but I've also never played any of the DR games (partially because the art style just isn't my bag) so I can't say how valid my opinion is compared to others.

I've never played Dangit Grandpa, but... idk, maybe I've been in anime fandoms too long, but I'm not having any trouble differentiating those characters. The first two in the first row are the worst for me, but the rest aren't too samey.

Tbh, I don't see it. I've always thought Dangan Ronpa was really good about having distinct character designs, and while the faces are pretty samey, I feel like the rest of the designs make up for it.

Never been a fan of the art style. Not a particular fan of the games either (too much suspension of disbelief). I have no idea why I played all the games so far. Must be a masochist.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't put Sayaka and Sonia together on this chart, because they look so damn similar that there's even a piece of official art acknowledging it. (And even without art of them in each other's clothes, whenever Sonia spoke in the trial segments I kept thinking she looked like a blonde Sayaka anyway.) I'll definitely give you Sayaka and Tsumugi though.

Not really sure what Touko and Gonta have in common beyond wearing big round glasses. I suppose skin tone, but Touko was drawn paler in DRAE for some reason... and I suppose default expression as well, but their actual personalities are wildly different from each other.

I think it's a combination of the artist not being especially talented and that anime is all about simplifying the face to prioritize attractiveness rather than realism. I'm not saying the art looks bad, I quite like it and think the characters are fun and expressive, but they just look like they were drawn by a person who is very comfortable drawing a few things and never draws anything outside of that.
