I think you have a point. Had tumblr been around when I was 16, I probably would have identified as asexual, but really it was the depression that basically made me non-sexual for 6 years. I mean, not that it's even wrong to call yourself that under these circumstances, but I do think it get get you into a mindset where you start building an identity around it. For me, it just sort of was, then it wasn't and I moved to having relationships without any deep soul-searching or conflict.

This. All of ourthis. This is why labelling yourself finitely is such a bad idea and unhealthy.
