I VERY VERY MUCH get not wanting to be associated with that part of your fandom---I used to be in Hetalia fandom back when it was huge, trust me, I absolutely get it. Obnoxious, entitled, truefen twits in fandom isn't a "my generation" thing, though. Nor is it exclusive to female fans. Obnoxious, entitled, truefen twits of both sexes have been around at least since the days of the original Sherlock Holmes fandom. Possibly longer, if you consider how the fact Louisa May Alcott was so vehement about Jo and Laurie Never Ever Ever Getting Together Ever probably stemmed from people writing her letters demanding it to happen. Avoid the stereotypes, by all means (please do, it's very embarrassing when people act like the fandom stereotypes.) Just remember that terrible people in fandom have always been there, and that you aren't living in some kind of specially horrible dark ages of fandom. It is, has been, and ever shall be like that in some corners. Unfortunately.
